According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 12% of the population of Pierce County lives in poverty. It is estimated that nearly 7% of school-age children in the Peninsula School District live in poverty. For many of these children, buying clothing is a financial burden. Harbor Hope Center partners with individuals, businesses and community organizations to provide new clothing for students. Additionally, a grant from the Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor and their Kiwanis Cares for Kids Program, provides an allotted amount for clothing per student.
