Good afternoon,
Just a few brief highlights of HHC developments in the past two weeks.
- We closed on the duplex (716 MLK, Jr.) Monday, 9/22, and are working on a punch list to make the place move-in ready as soon as possible. Our team is also working to get needed supplies donated when possible.
- Harbor Hope Center was awarded $527,202 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program. We joined three other organizations (Associated Ministries, Multicultural Child and Family Hope Center and Tacoma Community House) who also received funding. We have met with the county and HUD representative to begin work on program details and implementation. There is quite a bit of flexibility on their end in that the four organizations will work collaboratively in terms of referrals and beds provided. We will get you more information as we prepare a plan. Reimbursements begin in October so we have to keep moving. These funds are for transitional and rapid rehousing. The big house next door is being transferred via the Housing Trust Fund and we have been told the State has to sign off within 90 days of of the handover.
- Hands of Hope Gig Harbor is sold out. Don’t worry, if you have a table and haven’t turned in your names, we will be finalizing that next week. And if you don’t have a ticket, we have you covered. Just call me and I will make sure you are accomodated.
Since there are so many moving parts right now because of the good things happening, I will stay in close contact with each of you. Our strategic planning days are coming up on 10/15 (9-5) and 10/16 (9-2) and you are invited to participate or observe.
Thank you for all your good work for Washington’s youth.
Daniel
